Common Causes of False Positive Sickle Solubility Test:
Hyperlipidaemia – causes turbidity in the test solution.
Hypergammaglobulinemia – increased plasma proteins (e.g., in multiple myeloma) cause cloudiness.
High white cell count (leucocytosis) – especially in leukaemia.
Polycythaemia or high haematocrit – excessive red cell concentration may mimic positive test.
Improper test performance – inadequate clearing or centrifugation.
Old or stored samples – red cell lysis and haemolysis can cause false turbidity.
