Correct Answer: Lipemic Sample

Common Causes of False Positive Sickle Solubility Test:

  1. Hyperlipidaemia – causes turbidity in the test solution.

  2. Hypergammaglobulinemia – increased plasma proteins (e.g., in multiple myeloma) cause cloudiness.

  3. High white cell count (leucocytosis) – especially in leukaemia.

  4. Polycythaemia or high haematocrit – excessive red cell concentration may mimic positive test.

  5. Improper test performance – inadequate clearing or centrifugation.

  6. Old or stored samples – red cell lysis and haemolysis can cause false turbidity.
